What do black roses and nineteenth century New Orléans mansions have in common? Nothing at first thought; however, I used these seemingly unrelated objects and translated them to correspond through photography.
This black rose was one of many I received for my birthday from my boyfriend Frank. The black rose is significant because when we started dating he bought me a fake black rose with the thought of finding them one day for me. Well he did find them and they are gorgeous! “Black Magic” roses are actually a deep red and not jet black. If you see jet black roses, they are either dyed or fake because they do not grow in the ground. I love these roses because they remind me mostly of Nightmare Before Christmas and a little of Beauty and Beast. I would imagine that these would be the flowers that Jack would give to Sally. I used Pixlromatic for iPhone to add the effects and I added some extra “Disney Magic” with the sparkle. It keeps the dark/gothic tone to the image, but adds that small interesting twist.
Maybe Jack consulted the Beast as to where he got his rose…
The mansion is actually the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland and not from New Orléans. I’ve actually never been to New Orléans, but would love to go and do ghost tours. I used Pixlromatic for iPhone to edit and add the effects. I tried to make it look like an old photo and make the tourists look like ghosts caught in the photo.

It’s interesting to see what you can do with a simple camera and relate seemingly unrelated things into a cohesive story based on my own interests and feelings. Interpretation varies from person to person based on their emotions and feelings giving credence to the cliché saying, “a picture is worth a 1000 words.”
